Synopsis

Athrun has a secret obsession and it's in the form of his childhood friend, Kira Yamato. Meanwhile, Kira has been plagued by strange dreams that made him question his own sexuality. While Athrun brooded on how to deal with his own problem, Kira decides the only way to settle the matter was to enlist Athrun's help, with bizarre consequences. This story examines the intricate relationship between Kira and Athrun set in a society where sexual discrimination exists.

A Bildungsroman is generally defined as the story of a single individual's growth and development within the context of a defined social order. The growth process, at its roots a quest story, has been described as both "an apprenticeship to life" and a "search for meaningful existence within society."

Notes

This story was started in July 2004, before GSD first aired in Japan, and I've taken the liberty to loosely incorporate the events in that series in the later chapters. I might re-write the whole thing as GSD has ended but no promises because I'm too lazy... Please note: British spelling and slang terms are used in this series.

Between Friends: Main story

The main story is written within the fiction rating M guidelines, which includes possible strong but non-explicit adult themes, references to violence, and strong coarse language. The only exception is chapter 11, Metaphysical, which is rated MA. Chapter 11 contains rather explicit descriptions of m/m intercourse between Kira and Athrun.

Between Friends: Side Stories and Shorts

Side stories are supplements to the main Between Friends storyline. They're chapters in which the relationship between Kira and Athrun are examined in greater detail and may contain sexual content. It should be entirely possible to read and understand Between Friends without looking at the supplements, but you'll miss the hentai yaoi!

Shorts are stories under 300 words, mainly to capture the mood or a moment in time.
